Springs of Caldane
The Caldane thermal spring is located at Domaine Rosa de Caldane.
This one is located near Sartène, next to Sainte Lucie de Tallano, in a natural site between two mountains, about 200 m above sea level and near the Fiumicicoli river. The Estate includes the Caldane baths which offer their sulphurous water from the spring, but also a hotel residence, as well as a restaurant bar.
Origin of baths
The spring has been known since Roman times, it is mentioned by Bishop Giustiniani di Nebbio in the 15th century. At the beginning of the last century, it was used by the inhabitants of the region as a thermal bath. The women of the surroundings took advantage of this hot and sulphurous water to wash the linen.
The old mill fed by the waters of the Fiumicicoli dates from the 18th century.
The first evidence of the development of the site dates from the report of Dr Zuccarelli in 1931.
Thermal source
Of geothermal origin, the water of the Rosa de Caldane estate is pushed by natural gases and springs from the bottom of the basin.
This water, slightly sulphurous, with curative properties comes out at a temperature of 37° / 38°. It is recognized for its therapeutic and relaxing virtues. Thanks to the silica it contains, it is ideal for skin and bone diseases, as well as for sinuses, throat, ears and various inflammations. The Source has a flow rate of approximately 5000 to 8000 liters per hour.
The water in the basin has been naturally renewed for centuries and without interruption, which allows it to retain its purity. In the middle of nature, is the Basin built with granite blocks. It is strongly advised to respect the maximum duration of the bath fixed at 20 minutes, once and per day.
As the bottom of the pool is sandy, and so that the water retains its clarity, it is forbidden to dive, jump, swim, this for the comfort and tranquility of bathers, who can better relax and enjoy the benefits of water. .
